If you report racism/transphobes/Nazis and your instance doesn't ban them, time to move instances.

If you don't move instances and complain about moderation on Fedi, your complaint is invalid cause you've proven to be on an instance that has bad moderation and chose to do nothing to avoid it.

Report posts. Moderators don't see offending content if you don't report it. If they do nothing about it, leave.

And yes, you CAN report "private" messages or followers only posts, but BeAware that the moderator will be able to read the interaction.

@BeAware I pointed this out to someone and a bunch of people criticized me. I then showed how their post was accessible by an instance which should have been blocked, by default.

@Sibshops yep...as a lot of my posts are, this one is inspired by an actual interaction I just had where the person complained about harassment and mentioned blocking the user and "how bad it's getting", yet they didn't mention reporting them.

I replied to say that if people don't report posts, moderators can't see them.

He said "fair point, but counterpoint: that only works if the moderators care about harassment, which in these 2 cases, they did not."

To which I replied, if the moderators of their instance don't care about racism, it's time to move, no?

He basically said he doesn't care enough to move since it's too much work to research another instance and he doesn't use mastodon much anyway.‍️
