Hope everyone has been well today. I did something I rarely ever do during the day-time, sleep! Well, I went to church before that, but I thought that Adderall would keep me awake, but today, I just couldn't stay awake for some reason. It’s alright though, I don't have to be productive every day right? Hope everyone had a great day!

@glaroc it definitely does get you "high" and definitely has withdrawal symptoms that include anxiety, depression, and insomnia.

@BeAware Hmm, that is strange. For me at least, I don't feel high, I just have the ability to focus and it takes away the constant droning that my mind does without it. Also, at least from what I could tell, the worst I got yesterday was a massive headache which definitely sucked, but certainly not depression, but maybe because it was only for one day. Good to know honestly that that could happen though.

@glaroc the half-life for Adderall is 10 hours. The way half-life works, is that it takes generally 4 half-lives for a substance to be cleared from your system. That would be around 40 hours for Adderall.
Also, the "high" is just that it makes people feel a way that they like. Anything could give you a "high". You just don't associate that word in the same way, but it really is how it works. People wouldn't be so addicted to certain substances, I'm sure, if it didn't make them feel good. Adderall can lead to addiction and eventual abuse from those that don't need it.

@BeAware Guess its a good thing I got a perscription though and was diagnosed, honestly has helped change my life productivity-wise in many ways. Also, 40 hours? If it’s 40 hours for 4 half-lives, why do we take it every day and why do extended release capsules exist?

@glaroc because the effectiveness has been long gone after 40 hours.
The effective use time is always multitudes less than the half-life of the medication.

@BeAware Good to know, so I am assuming that if I ever had to take a drug test, it would show up positive for meth, as that is essentially what Adderall is?

@glaroc no, thankfully.
They are in the same class of amphetamines.
However, Adderall is specifically made up of 2 amphetamines called dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine.
Meth is strictly a *way* stronger amphetamine. Simply called Methamphetamine, as it is it's own thing.
Drug tests can tell the difference.

@BeAware Oh thank god! That really is awesome. Man, I love your knowledge on this, been taking Adderall for 2 months now every day, and while my life has improved significantly, it’s fun to learn about the science behind it all.

@glaroc haha. No worries, friend.
I'm going on 7 years now.
The biggest thing I've learned is that everyone is different. Some ways it effects others, may not apply to you and you'll have to "experiment" to find how it works for you.
ADHD has to do with your brain, therefore the medicine also effects that and as we know, brains are never a "one size fits all"

@BeAware Indeed, definitely understand that for sure. Still in the experimentation stage, trying to see what my limits are productivity-wise before I start losing focus once again, but unlike for neuro-typical people, focus isn't infinite.

@glaroc that is also very important. It's medication, not a miracle.
Therefore there could be a "tolerance" build-up. Which means that over time, continuous use might lead to less effectiveness.
If that happens, I recommended to take the 2 full "off-days" to withdraw and reset your tolerance so it works to full effectiveness.

@BeAware I see, so yesterday's off day was probably a good thing even if accidental? Good to know honestly, felt like shit though, but good to know. I might even just do that every once in a while during the weekend just to reset a kl bit, but man it sucks.

@glaroc it definitely sucks, but it effects some people less than others. Experimentation is pretty much required and if you really feel it's less effective and ADHD is starting to effect your life even while on it, you should definitely take breaks.️
I'm unfortunately one of those that it effects a lot. Your mileage may vary.

@BeAware I was under the impression that doctors highly monitored your use of it and if you didn't get it re-filled at a certain time, it would rouse suspicion that yo like giving that shit away or something. Good to know I can experiment with that. Indeed, I will probably do that whole brakes thing, because even just accidentally doing it yesterday seems to have improved the effectiveness of it, even though I did fall asleep today when I wasn't intending to, I just ate too much and sleep while not that much of a strugdle anymore can sometimes happen randomly but not very often anymore, with this being the first time in 2 months I decided to take a nap.

@glaroc even if they do that, you can always just monitor your refill date as well and make sure to refill on time and keep a backup stock...️
They definitely could be doing that...

@BeAware Hmm, they didn't tell me to keep a log, although I did for a little bit, but who knows probably not though.
-
beaware@social.beaware.livereplied to glaroc@tweesecake.social last edited by
@glaroc I don't really equate "looking at the refill date on the bottle" as keeping a log.️
Just BeAware that they might monitor your refill date and act accordingly.

@BeAware @glaroc i have a question. Does that same drug give you the same kind of high a dab would? See, I did one once and since then, I've not considered drugs of any sort because of the high level of heart pounding and dizziness it caused, even though I was also diagnosed with ADHD. I really don't need problems because I'm simply just trying to focus, not get super high to the point I'm light-headed and spinning like a runaway train on a very windy track.
