Are there people that contribute to #Mastodon and know what the current state of federated likes and comments is?

Are there people that contribute to #Mastodon and know what the current state of federated likes and comments is? So that when you open a post that you can see the actual amount of likes and all the comments without visiting the origination server? I feel like this still is a huge burden for non-technical users here

@brayd well, some federated software is actually working on this, but I don't think it will be done with Mastodon because it can/will cause an overload of data to the server. Servers won't be able to handle that much information at once.
That's why following a lot and following often is encouraged because Fediverse sends posts and replies by follow relationships on an instance basis. If someone on your instance doesn't follow someone on another, then those posts/replies won't be shown unless the original post comes from your server.

@BeAware hm yeah but as far as I can see there was a PR that has been merged to main: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/32620
I just can't find the functionality yet on my v4.4.0-alpha.2+glitch version. But I am not sure how main is being handled on Mastodon and when something from main is actually in some alpha, beta or stable release.

@brayd yeah it doesn't seem that it's fully implemented yet. Also, this will JUST be the numbers of likes and boosts, not comments, which is what I think would cause an overload on the servers.
