I've put my Twitter account on ice for now. I'm going to experiment with Mastodon and BlueSky. So far, in an odd twist of irony, I get why people may prefer BlueSky: the discover system does mean you get exposed to things you 'might' want but would not have found otherwise.
That said, how does this offer from Twitter? Twitter does it to an extreme, which becomes detractive.
Mastodon? There is no such thing, which is by design... and may be an effective fault.

@flamesoulis for me, the issue comes with censorship and the fact that the company can change the algorithm at any time and show you whatever they want without your knowledge or approval.
I can't speak on Bluesky's algorithm specifically, but if you were to go to Threads recently, you'd have been fed endless posts of people bashing X and praising Threads, even if you couldn't care less.

@BeAware I don't plan to touch Threads anytime soon (and the consensus seems to be roughly similar feelings with my usual group), but that is... something interesting I didn't think about.

@flamesoulis also, not to keep bashing corporate social media platforms, but they have TOS that you have to agree to, which says they can use your posts for whatever reason they see fit, whenever they want, without your permission.
Here, everything IS public as long as you make it so, and folks can take your posts and do stuff without your permission, but the lack of an agreement should give you an upper hand if you want to sue for such things in court.
