@scott think of it like this: WHATWG mostly came about as "real HTML by real implementers"
the analogous hypothetical "FEDIWG" would position itself as "real fedi by real implementers" and would likewise seek to standardize on a baseline of features for fedi instances (which act as user agents in the same vein as web browsers)
whether they are successful or not is yet to be seen, given that their existence is not yet realized. but 20 years from now? who knows...

@scott certainly there are "alternative web browsers" outside of what is mainstream, but what we're talking about here is relevant to the *producers* of such AS2 documents.

@scott in the same way that every unrecognized HTML element/tag is ignored (treated as a div), we can likewise imagine that every unrecognized JSON property or construct is similarly ignored (treated as a null)
