Okay #Mastodon tooters out there, I have a few questions regarding starting your own #Instance.
1. How did you come about starting your own instance?
2. Is your instance public or private?
3. What is it about?
4. Was it hard for you to set it up?
5. Do you still have your instance?
There will be more questions later. That is it for now.
Thank you!

1. I liked the idea of having my own little corner of the web where nobody can tell me what to do. So when I joined mastodon.social and found out I could do that, I did it pretty quickly.
2. Private. It's just me.
3. It's just me and my ramblings mostly about Fedi. Sometimes I talk about tech or gaming as well. Also, ADHD memes.
4. I had lots of help. I'm barely Linux literate and it's been a bit hard to maintain. Actually thinking of migrating to another host who would maintain it for me for the most part.
5. Yep, I am replying to you from my instance

@futurebird @BeAware I was going to go with Masto.host
Is there one better that you recommend? Please let me know. Thanks!

@justjustin @futurebird masto.host is okay for someone new and not confident with Linux.

@BeAware @futurebird Yes, as I have said before, I am not really tech savvy.
@justjustin @futurebird I hope it works well for you. Masto.host hosts MANY small instances and I haven't seen anyone complain.
Hugo is the name of the guy that runs it and he's very kind and helpful.

@BeAware @futurebird Yes, I just want an instance for a few of my friends, and some people on here. I think $9/month is good, without breaking the bank.
Hugo is the guy who runs this instance?
@justjustin @futurebird he runs the entire masto.host website, so technically I guess he runs MANY instances.

@justjustin @BeAware I want to have and instance and maybe a website with a lil database of my own at the same domain should I just have separate servers and point them at subdomains?

@futurebird @justjustin that would probably be the easiest, yeah.
