yes, that's my point. the #ActivityPub network is both decentralized in theory and mostly in practice. I don't think #bluesky can claim that. And I worry that other factors besides just having an open protocol, will mean it never becomes that either.

@wjmaggos @vex.blue to be fair, Fedi definitely is well on its way to centralization, just in a form that most don't realize could be a problem.
Eugen directly controls how 73%+ people interact with the Fediverse, which is the reason he feels comfortable not adding to AP to benefit the entire protocol and instead chooses to add proprietary features that only benefit them because they directly control those features and how they work.
There's not been much talk about this outside of AP dev circles, but if you pay attention to devs building in this space, you'll most certainly come across a dev complaining about Mastodon being a pain in the ass to comply with, quite often.
Then, of course, there's the problem of them completely ignoring the moderation issues that have been being discussed widely in the past few weeks. They expect users to report things, but they have to know that's not happening and isn't working, yet refuse to fix it because most people don't know there's other platforms besides mastodon here...
Then there's other, definitely more concerning issues that comes with that, that most people don't realize is happening.
For example, if you discuss "genocide", you're more than likely getting silenced on .social...slippery slopes tend to only get more slippery unfortunately.
I do like it here and hope these concerns could be dealt with or less concerning to me, but right now, they're very concerning to me. Especially in regards to decentralization.
Sorry for the slight rant and "doomer" energy.
