I want to like the #fediverse. But the mastodon server I'm on has frequent SSL issues that the people running it seem annoyed to be told about, and when I sign up for other servers to migrate, I get stuck in approval queue hell...

@deepthaw that's...concerning.
SSL is SO easy to renew nowadays with LetsEncrypt Certbot, there's no excuse that I could fathom for this to be happening.
The SDF account that's on the About page hasn't discussed the issue publicly it seems....

@BeAware @deepthaw They're using let's encrypt, the problem is that they provide hosting to members with subdomains and certs, and they get rate limited by let's encrypt. I don't know where things stand now, but I know in the past they've had trouble getting hold of someone at LE to work out a sustainable solution.

@elb @deepthaw maybe that's something they should *stop* doing until it could be sorted...
It looks okay right now, but it can cause errors to build up in the job queues of every Fediverse instance that federates with it when the SSL issues occur.
If enough people follow and federate with SDF users, this can cause Fediverse-wide errors across the back end.
Their issue could easily become everyone else's issue.
