There, I said it.

@DavidBHimself One of the things that always gets me is one of the unwritten house rules is "Not using data for other purposes" and people used that to dismay Bridgy Fed. But... Bridgy Fed is essentially just another instance. And any instance could use that data for nefarious purposes anyways.
Its more of a case of the fediverse attempting to push Bluesky aside but they may have just shot themselves in the foot too.

@ducky@ap.zio.sh The problem is that the Mastodon Taliban don't care about the Fediverse (they don't even understand the Fediverse) and they definitely don't want it to grow and become more widely adopted.
They want the exact opposite. They want it to remain a small closed environment where they can dictate the rules to everyone else here.
And so far they've succeeded with that BS, and the FediBlock nonsense and more, as well as the bad reputation Mastodon is getting in the mainstream. That's why I think more and more that the Fediverse really needs to be rebranded in a way that it doesn't "rely" on Mastodon to become more known and more adopted.
Mastodon, in parts because of the HOA and the Taliban is now a hurdle more than anything else. -

@DavidBHimself thanks, at least someone's got big balls.
Someone might kick them, but the big balls are there and appreciated.

@DavidBHimself Mastodon Taliban is such a fitting name to describe these people. Love it.
#Fediblock and everyone pushing for the #Fediverse to remain a walled garden can go fuck themselves. -

@DavidBHimself no, you're completely wrong, and you have no experience of moderation.
Unauthorised bridges are a moderation nightmare. They're de facto impersonation - likely up to the point of being legally actionable - and you end up spending so much time suspending cloned accounts upon request of original account owners that it's just quicker to block the bridge.
Sure, some might have ideological opposition to them.
Doesn't change the fact that they're absolutely unworkable.

@DavidBHimself I have a Bsky bridge now, and let people know about them, because it's not opt-in. The author eventually got his shit together.
But the reality is like so many "bright ideas" people come up with for Fedi that bridges tend to be built on a foundation of ignorance towards both culture and law, and people thinking dunderheaded nerd principles supercede both of them.
This isn't Vietnam, this is bowling, there are rules.

@DavidBHimself it's always people who've never moderated anything or who have solo servers making these ludicrous "information wants to be free" arguments.
We're in the real world now. There are laws.

@davey_cakes@mastodon.ie You seem to know something I don't.
Can you refer me to these laws?
(on a side note, please don't assume my experiences about this or that) -

@DavidBHimself @davey_cakes I am very interested and invested in this information as well. Replying here to remind myself to check back up.

@davey_cakes you're posting publicly, hun. You already have the consent options built into the platform. You not using them is not lack of consent.
