It's wild to me when I see someone say "Fediverse seems dead"
Because at this point, this is one of the most active times I've ever seen Fedi and it feels like they just wanna get attention for some reason.

@BeAware you get out what you put in to the fediverse...

@BeAware I think this is a lot rhetorics of people addicted to mainstream media with algorithms getting them onboard from first seconds of interaction. On Fediverse you need to put some effort into your feed to make sense

@BeAware Yeah, honestly it seems like we're well past the lull of last summer* and everything's on a growth trajectory again.
* (I think it was that temporary moment when a lot of early adopters—myself included—thought maybe Threads is actually good.)

@jaredwhite I think you're right about your threads assessment for sure.
Still holding out hope that people realize Bluesky isn't their end all social media and end up here eventually as well. That, in my opinion, would be the biggest win for Fedi.
So glad to see how active Fedi is these days though. I enjoy it.

Having more people migrate to the fediverse would be great. Though I do hope it comes paired with more optimizations to the software, since it's not reasonable to expect the instances to keep adding hardware to maintain a reasonable user experience.

@rastilin @jaredwhite that's why decentralization is so important. My instance has been running on the same hardware for almost 2 years.
People need to make their own instances. That's the point of Fediverse.

I do get that people make their own instances, but those instances share posts and images to each other. So each new instance adds additional strain onto every other existing instance; especially if you're on an instance that sees a larger portion of the network.
As I understand it, the global feed is based off of which instances users are subscribed to in your current instance, so on smaller instances users won't even be aware that large parts of the network exist.

@rastilin @jaredwhite exactly...which is exactly what makes it scaleable. Like I said, I've been running on the same hardware for almost 2 years.
I'm not forced to host all Fedi data all the time. I clear it out weekly and I'm sure most Fedi instances do the same besides the biggest ones.
