To those who have been harassed on Fedi recently, how does it compare to other platforms?
Most notably, X?
And, in your opinion, where is the failure in Fedi moderation?
Does the problem lie with your instances moderators not taking care of the harassers?
Or do you think, overall, that its a fundamental issue with the software?
I've been very frustrated with the lack of Mastodon moderation tools for a LONG time and would like to see others opinions on this super important issue.

@BeAware I think there are instances that are okay with replyguys and other harassers. But because they tend to be “too large to defederate from” they keep getting a pass because “we can’t punish all the people that aren’t doing anything wrong.” I think a lot of the problems on Fedi could be solved by letting the user turn off replies. PixelFed is working on that now and I’m hoping it’ll trickle to GlitchSoc soon.

@x00001 well, the issue with the last sentence is that Pixelfed and GlitchSoc are completely different software with different codebases. GlitchSoc makes moves based off of Mastodon main branch.
However, Mastodon is "exploring" it.
See MAS-37 under EXPLORING.
Though, to your first point about the bigger instances. I can only assume you're talking about . social, however a lot of the folks that I've seen getting harassed, like @blogdiva are on mastodon.social, so those folks can't block their own instance.

@BeAware That ends up falling back to bad moderation which dot social is known for. Just one of the millions of reasons why dot social being the default choice for the Mastodon app was a horrible idea. I advocate for people to leave dot social all the time.

@x00001 same.
I'm also personally blocked by Eugen for my criticisms regarding the lack of moderation tools for the software.
He just doesn't care. Look at his profile over the past 2 weeks, he's been posting photography while a huge part of Fedi discusses harassment and moderation issues specifically with his software. ️

@BeAware I have noticed his sudden shift into becoming a photographer. Really makes you question where all the Mastodon Nonprofit money is going to, doesn't it?

@BeAware@social.beaware.live @x00001@corteximplant.com Is it possible that maybe he’s letting other folks work on it and distressing and living life? As someone that built the monolith that is Mastodon, and next steps will just alienate him from different groups?

@AterNox @x00001 possible, but as a "leader" in the space, since he's pushing to become the defacto "one platform" of Fedi, I'd say he has an obligation to at least make a statement.
We didn't force this on him. I've been asking about moderation for a whole year and he knows this, that's why he blocked me....

I get your point, and I think he does want Mastodon to be first among many, I think things like moderation are going to take a while to bake before they implement it. I do not think any of the forks have implemented it either? -
