#decentralized. It simply isn't.While it may be #decentralized in structure, it is centralized in #federation—like a group of states believing themselves autonomous, only to be crushed by the federal power that grew from within.

If @mastodon is 'decentralized like email,' then let's talk about how centralized email actually is: (1) Domain registrars control naming from step one. (2) Spamhaus & similar entities dictate legitimacy, marginalizing entire domains at will. (3) servers must comply with endlessly growing, centralized verification systems just to avoid blacklisting. (4) major providers block small email servers before they even reach Spam.
#Decentralized in name, centralized in effect.

@timcox @politicer thankfully I've never had any issues like that in the 1.5 years I've been running my instance.

A lack of awareness isn't proof of absence. These issues persist, whether or not you've personally noticed them.

So, are we assuming that if no one in your immediate circles reports an issue, it must not exist? And if even a small group disacknowledges these issues, they’re all automatically incorrect for all people? What if your following relationships simply form an echo chamber, reinforcing only what they think you already believe?

@timcox @politicer I have 1300 followers, if that's not diverse enough for you, then idk.

By his definition nothing that uses DNS is because of the registrar. Discussion is over because he said so and the rest is him just trolling you.

Bruh...I just realized that I'm typing this on my phone. In the US, there's only a small selection of service providers.
My phone is not decentralized!
