@thejacenallen yeah....? It's exactly like email. You're not changing your email once you make it unless you're doing some complicated thing. It's been like that for...ever.

You can accomplish this using several softwares from the Facebook side of the fediverse (Friendica, Hubzilla, Streams, Forte, and possibly a couple of Threadiverse projects). It appears you're using Mastodon, which means you can't.

@dariusk@community.nodebb.org @julian@community.nodebb.org Just so there are no misunderstandings, these delivery/privacy modes and rules are all (flawed) Mastodon constructs and have no basis in ActivityPub or ActivityStreams. Other fediverse software may or may not honour these modes; which lean heavily on mentions or lack of mentions and whether or not a particular address is in the to field or the cc field.

But what "that" is, or "that" looks like, is something that is the subject of that unwritten and unpublished "part 3" in the series.(I'm not sure when I'll get to it, because I have other priorities than writing thinkpieces... I also need to get my website updated before I feel comfy pushing the final version of that article!)

@abff08f4813c Well I'm technically an admin of my own instance, so if it could live on my own instance and report like a normal user and not use the "forward to original instance" that'd be just fine. I got blocked by Eugen Rochko for suggesting such a thing.‍️

say what you will about samsung and profits or whatever, the thing i'm commenting on is that anyone would ever consider "missed profit expectations" to be a "crisis". it just stings a lot more in the face of several actual currently-ongoing crises
