Pardon the intrusion, but hello - I'm conducting a small test as to how an attempt to join an activitypub.space works and looks from within my usual space, which is a mastodon home accessed via the Advanced view, web client.
So far I have discovered that reading the discussion happens by "following" its fediverse handle then finding everyone's comments as individual posts boosted by the discussion.
I may have to join @julian 's instance directly though ... ponderingthat.

johannab@cosocial.ca yes, you can follow the category directly, although as you've discovered everything gets boosted and ends up on your timeline. It's a good enough way to interact, although it'll be harder to follow long conversations involving participants other than yourself.
