    In #ActivityPub, once a post is federated, you lose control over how remote instances handle interactions on it. Some servers like #GoToSocial are working on interaction controls, but non-compatible instances simply ignore your rules.
    With #HolosSocial, we're considering a "safe mode" available at publishing time. Your post would only be delivered to followers on instances that respect interaction controls. Not enabled by default, but there for those who need it.

      @HolosSocial this "safe mode" only delivering to instances that support/respect interaction controls is a really good idea that I hope GoToSocial and others pick up as well.

        @HolosSocial how would this work? Based on the capabilities of the software running on the instance by version number?

          @nyquildotorg
          When delivering a post, Holos already knows which instances your followers are on. We'll start by validating compatible instances based on software type and version number. Over time, Holos will also build a local registry automatically by checking how instances actually respond to interaction requests.

            @nikatjef
            If a post is in safe mode, replies from non-compatible instances would simply be rejected. You can only reply to a safe mode post if your instance supports interaction controls. This way the entire thread stays protected by design.
