@LianaBrooks yes, I have left Meta only one month ago but I love it here. Unfortunately friends and family still use fb and ig, but I hope they'll switch, sooner or later.
I am still working on my feed and connections, it takes some time, but the engagement is genuine and I post because I want, not because I have to in order to keep being seen from the algorithm. I wish more people realized that.

@LianaBrooks Yes and yes, and I even recently started a silly but enjoyable trend with @Gemueseturnir , a tournament of vegetables. Mastodon has it all (except the mean algorithms), you just need to make it work.

The culture of your local clique might vary, but to me it is the open social media that is most ressiliant to social reach as the main criteria for sucess.

This makes it a safer environment to drop your masks.

It is absolutly not perfect, but except for closed groups it is the best I know of.

Yes and yes, and I dumped everything else because I got tired of ads being forced on me - despite ad-blockers - and algorithms hiding all the stuff I actually wanted to read.

Here I pick who to follow, and see all their content. I can filter keywords to avoid certain topics or make them stand out more. I follow a few "super-boosters" who introduce me to new people constantly.

I love it here, and I'm not going back to corporate-owned social media.

Yes and yes. I have been for many years now and it's great. I've met so many cool people here.

@LianaBrooks I haven't touched Twitter in years. Facebook and Instagram are also dead to me. Threads was a no-go. Bsky is an alt.

@LianaBrooks Yes and yes. The lack of algorithm allows me to customize as needed without being rugswept by hidden policies or needing to meet a schedule. It's also easy to move from one server to another if you're not feeling you fit in with one.

@LianaBrooks When I left the corporate world for a nonprofit, I killed all my social media accounts because I didn’t need them for work anymore.

At the time, I had to delete every post, every Like, every repost. 10,000 Instagram posts. 22,000 tweets. Countless Facebook posts. It was arduous but wonderful to be free of it.

Mastodon has given me the news and community I wanted but never got from the others. I can listen and support and also be seen. I like it here.
