@LianaBrooks When I left the corporate world for a nonprofit, I killed all my social media accounts because I didn’t need them for work anymore.
At the time, I had to delete every post, every Like, every repost. 10,000 Instagram posts. 22,000 tweets. Countless Facebook posts. It was arduous but wonderful to be free of it.
Mastodon has given me the news and community I wanted but never got from the others. I can listen and support and also be seen. I like it here.

@LianaBrooks 100%. I’ve only used Mastodon for around 4 years and haven’t looked back.

Is a close second for me. #Mastodon for @alice and Doctorow, and a number of hashtags, but most of my fellow X-escapee people went to #Bluesky. -

@LianaBrooks Yes. I don't really use social media to keep up with people I know in person (I prefer email for that), and I'm not huge on cultivating viral amounts of followers. That said I've found a good group of people to interact with here, and generally enjoy the vibes. It is working for me.

@LianaBrooks Nearly 200 boosts and comments.... I'd say it's working for you. I'm happy if I get 1 boost or like. Comments are almost zero.

It's the first Social Media I ever used, although I've been on the Internet since 1993, and into professional IT from 2000.
For some reasons, I simply never trusted the antisocial commercial platform bullshit engines from the outset. Thus, I was spared that experience.

Yes. Only social media. Mastodon is entirely sufficient once you get a good collection of follows.

You do however have to curate the accounts you follow and choose hashtags to follow. There is no algorithm on the #fediverse, you are the algorithm.
Reply to posts and boost posts by others that you find interesting and find relevant for other people who follow you. That is how you can make it work for yourself and others.
@alterelefant @LianaBrooks same. It is my ONLY social media at this point.

Im still getting into it but this is where I'm at. Many of the topics I used to engage with on X are non existent or limited to bots reposting X or substack content. Im not a programmer which seems to be a large swath of content I see rn.Still enjoying the type of stuff I see enough to keep me here and hopeful it continues to grow.

@LianaBrooks #mosstodon alone makes this the best socmed on the internet. I do not post anywhere else online anymore (except maybe LinkedIn, but that's because I have a vain hope to become hired in software at some point).
