He was the admin of feddit.de. I think he went on a work trip to SE Asia and was never seen again. First technical problems troubled the instance until nobody paid for the server and domain anymore. Now the new feddit.org is governed by a non-profit with multiple admins.

Did I not configure my options right? No, it is the software that is wrong.
Thing is, there are NSFW things that aren't porn. Seems like a decent amount of them on Lemmy. I shouldn't need to filter out all NSFW simply because there's a shotgun blast of new porn communities every month. I ended up just blocking every one I see, simply because that's not what I'm on Lemmy for.
Truth be told, I won't miss it.

I ended up just blocking every one I see, simply because that's not what I'm on Lemmy for.

Plenty of us are here actively trying to limit our access to those like you. I shouldn't need to block entire communities just to avoid you. Yet here we are.
What are you gonna do, be a hypocrite and tell me to just block you? Stop taking your allowance to be here for granted, you're being tolerated, just as much as you're tolerating others. That's how the world works.

As an instance admin myself, I'm so confused... If you went through the effort of setting up an instance, the effort of transferring all the access and stuff to someone else would be nothing. Just seems super weird to disappear without a trace and without handing it over to someone else.

Hey, good on you for trying to make your situation better. I hope you're doing it for the right reasons , instead of swallowing the bullshit that they peddle to control people (being concerned about masturbating too much/intrusive fantasies VS "not jerking off will get you babes and give you superpowers")
However, giving up on the NSFW stuff (some of which won't be lewd) is the price you have to pay. the NSFW thing is a social construct and courtesy , and is 95% lewd shit anyway, so you're not exactly missing out on much.

Fuck! My first account was on lemmy.ee which passed away a few months ago. My second account was on lemmynsfw thinking the presence of porn would be a guarantee of its sustainability. It's like been banned twice from Reddit.

I did some rough math on this and that would be the least of the worries. The cost of hosting a nsfw instance would easily be $500-$1000 per month.
Which leaves me wondering if part of it going down was funding.
