    Idea for experiment: mail to fediverse?

    @selfhosted

    My ambition: having people writing to "username @ domain dot ext" and mail content goes into public, or private, on fediverse "handle @ domain . ext".

    Someone already did it? Pros and cons? Disadvantages are more than benefits?

    I heard about a trick called "mail2mastodon" but before doing deeper research I first wanted to understand how the effort is, and if it's worth.

      @elettrona@poliversity.it I am not well-versed in email technology. I am confused, even today, by what a mail transfer agent (MTA) and mail user agent (MUA) are.

      But... I think this is doable.

      For example, my handle julian@activitypub.space is only a fediverse handle. I have not set up email on that domain. It is theoretically possible to set up a MUA MTA (gosh I hope I am using that term right nope I did not) to accept the email, and display it to me.

      But do I want to blur the lines and have my social media also become my email reader... I am not so sure <img class="not-responsive emoji" src="https://activitypub.space/assets/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/android/1f605.png?v=a2a7da0aec4" title="😅" />

        @julian The easiest is to use "post via e-mail feature" in self-hosted WordPress. But who knows if it then becomes a draft... I have just the idea and I'm sharing it as such, because I fear it could cause a mess of spam.
        The basic idea is, "reply via e-mail to this post", and all replies go to Fediverse as blog comments. In that case, "post by email" won't work
