Do you have a basic shared hosting plan? You can now host a #Fediverse instance on that plan. Check out #Starling: https://github.com/dfaria-eu/Starling#activitypub #Fediverse #LAMP #selfhosting

@elettrona yes, only Pros, see the ActivityPub Spec. which has exactly the same "addressing" fileds like mail … E.g. https://www.w3.org/TR/activitypub/#client-addressing @selfhosted

@spacebuffer We took over an instance with about 600 Mau. We started with 10gb and quickly doubled it to 20gb as we were getting out of memory errors. Database and system are about 500gb of disk. Media cache is about 1TB hosted off site. I think we're around 10 cpu cores.

Self-hosting guides like this are so valuable. Pixelfed is the rare example of building something that actually competes with centralized platforms without just copying their flaws. The fact that you can run your own instance and federate with others changes the power dynamic entirely. More of this.

#SelfHosting week 1, phase 4. FINALLY.The main architecture is up and running now. Lemmy, WriteFreely, Castopod, today I'll get WordPress multisite running; my current site on shared hosting, runs a singular website where I created multilingual through "FullSiteEditing" WordPress feature; but it's quite difficult to maintain in long-term so 2 sites with 2 languages will make it better. Now I have upgraded my hosting plan to Hostinger kvm2, and associated my VPS to the huge lifetime 10TB cloud I have, for podcasts. PCloud, through rclone. Next phase will be WordPress, then maybe to point various services to the right domain (plusbrothers.net and not .online). Most passages have been done via command line, and to find the right commands I've used google gemini. Unfortunately for some features, American (big) tech has still been useful. #accessibility #selfhost #activitypub #blog #multilingual #blind #WordPress

Today's deep dive into #activitypub#selfhosting a #pixelfed instance, I send a Follow request to a selfhosted #wordpress blog with AP plugin. The returned Accept Follow payload gets processed by InboxWorker where it just fizzles.I then send a Follow request to an account hosted on mastodon.social. Returned Accept gets processed by InboxValidator instead, then on to ActivityHandler and down the FollowPipeline as expected.Only message difference is #mastodon adds a 'username' field.Bug?
