The federated experiment for this blog has begun. This is a public blog though sensitive content will be marked with a content warning both in HTML and when distributed. All remote posts to a blog post will go into the approval queue for comments.I have an internal aggregator feed for each person/bot I will follow, and hopefully that will inspire me to write blog posts in reply to those in my feed. I have not implemented receiving posts directly, and most-likely, if I do, those will go in as feed items somehow. However I probably won't implement private messages so please don't be offended if I don't reply privately.I do have inbox forwarding, which I think I have implemented correctly, and we'll see how other instances deal with what I forward.

One downside to Mastadon for me so far: the servers I join keep shutting down. I figure joining the main place will increase my odds of longevity! Also got #activitypub going on my #wordpress website, but still haven't configured after installing last year I guess I'm just usually adverse to all social no matter who runs the platforms But I'd also love to see the fruition of a truly open web, so 'be the change you wish to see'.

ActivityPub is tops, for all it’s flaws.Skip #Nostr, too. It’s web3 cryptobros all the way down.#Scuttlebutt seems interesting, but I haven’t done a deep dive. I am a fan of #RSS and #WebSub, which give you many #ActivityPub features (except comments) for 5% of the hassle. You could say the same for #IndieWeb APIs, like #WebMentions and #MicroFormats, which are awesome, but the community seems even less organized than the ActivityPub community (if that’s possible)@YurkshireLad

@helge @steve My largest #ActivityPub object is this one at 223858 bytes: https://kbin.social/m/fediverse/t/4331It doesn't help that it's doubled up, with every link appearing first in "content" and then in "contentMap[en]". It's legitimate, though - it says a bit more than just "snausages".There are quite a few at around 50K, too, mostly Lemmy's federated block messages.

Some #ActivityPub servers limit the max size of inbox messages. Apparently, Mastodon doesn't. I see several messages in my database that are over 100KB. One 60KB message repeats the word "snausages" over and over. The largest, a 400KB note, repeats a phrase that isn't appropriate to share in polite company.

Somebody opened an issue for #gnufm (#librefm) to support #ActivityPub. That would be so cool. Sadly nobody is still active on that project. Still hoping for some great devs to restart the project.
