Sounds like privilege to me. For instance I think blahaj is entirely correct to aggressively enforce a space where people aren't allowed to argue their userbase shouldn't be allowed to exist.

And yet I'm not banned from there. Only massive general instances.

yes, the current internet is full of safe spaces. as it should be. people deserve to feel safe.

you've basically gone into someone elses house and criticised them for not allowing you to track mud all over their floor.

Individual communities, sure, but not entire massive general instances. That's beyond stupid.

They can say they only ban for whatever reason, but then just ban for whatever they like to. Just don't disagree with them, or say something they don't like and you'll be fine. Yeah. I've got major issues with that.

I’ve never had an issue with mods or admins outside of .ml, personally. And that’s while overtly being a dick. I can’t comprehend placing .world and .ml in the same sentence.

The first 6-12 months here (during/right after the Reddit API drama) were great. After that....not so much.

But the moral of the story from the episode was that they were both necessary. Vital sub-components of one complete terminally online poster. You can't really have one without the other.

.world, from what I’ve seen, basically says “don’t be a dick or deny atrocities, which leads us back to point 1. Also no piracy.” .ml says “avoid criticizing Russia, china, North Korea, communism, communist figures, or cursing at our special little gremlins who will spew vileness at you entirely unprompted. But also don’t be a dick or deny atrocities, unless doing so interferes with any of the previously stated rules.”

I can’t see how you’d have a grievance with both, unless you’re moving politically rightward. Which I have strong opinions about.

But also don’t be a dick or deny atrocities, unless doing so interferes with any of the previously stated rules.”

If only! To be pedantic though, what Lemmy.ml actually says is:

A community of privacy and FOSS enthusiasts, run by Lemmy’s developers

            and

No bigotry - including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia.

Which (somehow?🤷‍♂️🤪) translates to what you said, except... no wait, it does not? Hence it says one thing (my quotes) while doing exactly the opposite (your quotes), in point of fact.

On the other hand, there's the "trust me bro, i iz total1y relaibles" defense, otherwise known as "nuh-uh, I know you are but what am I?"

Because while it is human nature to be wrong sometimes, it might be best not to actively wallow in it? (See also: Hexbear, Lemmygrad.ml, and some smaller ones such as midwest.social)

It doesn't work so well when the majority of people are concentrated in one or another. It's like going into a Reddit admins pet project sub and then getting banned completely on Reddit because you broke that sub's rules.

                  To be fair @ptz@dubvee.org

You’re doing an impossible job by trying to basically singlehandedly create a nice curated instance while removing all the bad stuff. Which honestly is amazing. But it’s not suprising to me that with that sort of workload you’re having a tough time and the charm of the lemmyverse is fading.

Edit: Holy shit I didn’t realise you’re shutting down dubvee (https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/28754411). Honestly, I think that’s a very fair choice on your part given the situation. Respect.🫡

Having looked through your modlog, it seems like you had a bit of trouble adjusting to the only newly broadly accepted ways that men and women can characterize themselves. It’s an adjustment, to be sure. Particularly without context.

Instances are groups of like minded communities. To extend the earlier metaphor it'd be like going to a town that doesn't allow cars and you decide to ride your motorcycle down the sidewalks blasting all the houses with noize they don't want to hear.

What about the ones that came here to avoid censorship elsewhere, but got banned here instead? Turns out lemmy.world and lemmy.ml don't like free speech.

You got banned for talking about the government?

Edit: oh i see, you got banned because you're a homophobe and a bigot and an asshole.
That's not censorship. That's just people not putting up with your dumbass.
