Seems that after all those years I have to give in and get WhatsApp in need to being connected to a group.
Still struggling.

I had it for two days because we had friends from America visiting and it was the only thing they could use internationally. Don't know why they couldn't just call me. As soon as I found them at the airport, I uninstalled it.
