huh? Even with the context I don't get it.

The slrpnk.net server went down and the admin wasn’t able to physically get to the server to fix the issue. It appears it came back up quicker than anticipated.

Slrpnk.net outage (resolved) - Divisions by zero
Edit: unexpectatly we are back online. Will share how we found a solution later. There might be still some federation issues though. Alt account of poVoq@slrpnk.net [poVoq@slrpnk.net] here. Our instance is currently down and I can’t get remote access to the servers. It appears that there might have been a hardware failure of the main firewall, which is the one thing I can’t work around remotely. I am still trying a few things, but I am not very optimistic that I can get access. The really unfortunate part is that just now I am on one of my rare work deployments abroad, so I also can’t access it physically during the next few weeks and my usual back up that could restart it is not available either. As something like that never happened in 3 years operating the servers, I thought I can risk it, but murphy’s law seems inescapable 😓 I will try to keep you posted here on any updates, but probably there will not be much I can do for a while. Really bad timing 😥 Edit: we might use this “opportunity” to migrate the instance to Piefed, which has been an idea for quite some time now. I will keep you posted on that.

Woool our friends are back!

We're elated to be back in business. Brace yourself, my shitposting itch has gone unabated for a while now.

Slrpnk.net was my first Lemmy server! I had absolutely NO IDEA how it worked, but I was motivated by my recent departure from Facebook and Twitter.
When they went down, it kinda felt like when you go to a party with someone and it's all their friends, and then your date vanishes into thin air, and your choices are leaving the party or making awkward convo with a rodent of unusually large size by the punchbowl...

Congrats!
-
So happy to be home again ^^

I'm ready.

Not being able to participate anywhere on Lemmy merely because my home instance was down didn't feed very federated
Is there anything I can do to guard against that issue in the future? Is there a way to mirror an account between two instances or something?
Anyway, big props to the slrpnk admins for getting the instance back online quicker than expected. Your hard work is definitely not unappreciated or unnoticed.
