Silly question, but does DM in Mastodon mean private mention?

You see, here is my #autism shining through. I need a definitive answer, even though I bet this is obvious for most people.

After trying it out, it still feels weird that private and public communications are showing up in the same place. #autism #mastodon

@Azzura yeah, it's strange but I think that's because on Fediverse, especially Mastodon, admins can see DMs if one is reported like a normal post. It's not as "private" as most would hope. There's no private encryption at all as far as I know.
