imagine claiming a post made in the far future, you would be pinned at the top of the timeline if there was no further validation
accounting for clock skew you could claim your posts are up to 12 hours ahead of the receiving server

@trwnh @codl yeah clock skew is super annoying to deal with on a single merged timeline. There also a dual issue with backlogged old things, like, do you insert them when they were published and ensure they’re never seen, or do you flood the current timeline with old stuff? Mastodon takes the latter. It feels less bad but it’s still bad.
