@xumbra hm, most likely the "reason" you would expect it to be "require follow requests" rather than "accept new follow requests automatically" is that other networks (twitter et al) tend to invert it in this way, where the "natural state" is to have follows not require approval. but for the fediverse, the "natural state" is to require approvals; it's just that mastodon can automatically approve requests on your behalf.
it's also possible that "reach" is the wrong way to categorize this?
