what is the latest on supporting MarkDown in authoring posts in vanilla MASTODON?

I did a quick search but is anyone tracking this? Today, I want a way to do fixed-width fonts for ASCII-art. But I'll take what I can get..

If there are forks out there which are fairly minimal patches, that would also be useful if anyone has any recommendations

@dannotdaniel glitch-soc is maintained by some official mastodon contributors.

But I have not heard *anything* about vanilla planning to support markdown.

They even have issues going back to 2022 that are still open and begging for it.

@dannotdaniel yep...it's unfortunate they keep dragging their feet on most requested features, but that's what we get with the Fedi monopoly they have...‍️

They even have an issue open for "commonly requested" with Markdown having its own entire section.

@north @dannotdaniel I don't know how difficult it is, as I've not done it, but from what I can tell, it'd be as easy as updating mastodon itself.

And yes, you can go back seemingly just as easy.

@dannotdaniel @north yeah, but he's just some dude that runs it without giving info about how to do it. I saw that, but it didn't give much besides "it works and was easy".‍️

It's a very vague blog post tbh.
