@artemist @erincandescent @thisismissem @strangeparts that's so weird. i still have no idea where this idea came about or how it proliferated, but for the part of the mastodon documentation, do you have any ideas on how this information could be better found? right now it's under admin > config # WEB_DOMAIN, but if there's a better place you can suggest i'm all ears.

@trwnh @erincandescent @thisismissem @strangeparts I think the reason I found the old article was because I was using the wrong terms and ended up here: https://github.com/felx/mastodon-documentation/blob/master/Running-Mastodon/Serving_a_different_domain.md
The fact that it was on a separate page probably helped it come up in search results. I also had the weird experience of setting up mastodon through NixOS several years ago, so I wasn't using a lot of the official documentation.

@artemist @erincandescent @thisismissem @strangeparts oh, it's exactly what i thought. that repo is a fork of the old-old (2017 era) mastodon documentation, which predates activitypub.
