That's why I went with mastodon.social since it seemed the closest thing to a default; broad enough in scope to encompass the variety of topics I deal in (tech, art, gamedev/modding, politics, the odd shitpost) without needing to register and manage a dozen separate accounts on a dozen different sites each with 2½ followers and topic scopes that are simultaneously narrow and overlapping; and without subscribing to the "make yet another special snowflake server" DLC in advance.
