I hate this.
I hate that I was right.
Everything is about . It always has been.

@BeAware Why is it not a good thing and why do you hate it?

And people wonder why I don't post here that much anymore.
It's not the same as it was just a few short months ago.
Mastodon has taken over and they refuse to do anything about major issues here.
They're set to make a ton of money from this, all while their 20,000+ instance admins don't even have basic automated reporting or useful moderation tools.
You wanna know why harassment is rampant on Fediverse? Cause moderators have to have eyes on the post themselves to moderate it.
If you don't report it, it doesn't get moderated.️
Ugh!

@hallenbeck because we're back on a Meta controlled platform now and we didn't ask for that.
They now have a reason to be influenced by outside sources.

@BeAware You object to this because Meta is a part of it? That's it?
-
beaware@social.beaware.livereplied to hallenbeck@mastodon.social last edited by
@hallenbeck because this place is supposed to be non-corporate controlled. Not controlled by 1 big entity. Not controlled by investors and executive decisions.
This is enshittification at its finest...

@BeAware I dunno, all I ever hear from AP devs is it's impossible to work with because there's no formal org for standardization so they're forced to just conform to how mastodon handles everything
This feels more like Evan taking a larger role in how AP is organized. I'm not even sure what it means to be an 'industry supporter' it sounds like that's just a list of orgs that said 'that's a good idea'

@tom maybe. However, I never hear that about AP. Only mastodon specifically and that's because mastodon not complying with most of AP standard...

@BeAware can you explain what this is all about?
-
drakkenzero@retro.pizzareplied to beaware@social.beaware.live last edited by
@BeAware You wanna know the dumbest part about it?
If you go down to the bottom, the links they have for them ON social media are... Threads, X, and "Social Web" which one would assume is, like, their instance of whatever it is.
But if you try and click on the Social Web link, it takes you to https://socialwebfoundation.org/@swf which is clearly broken because (at least in Firefox) it shows up as just the raw data

@TransitBiker I'm still digging my heels into it right now. From the surface it seems very suspicious and financially motivated centralization of a decentralized platform, which is not good.
However, there may be some underlying bright side.
I'll have to get back to you with my full thoughts once I wrap my head around it all.

@DrakkenZero I'm on iOS version of Firefox and it just loops back on itself to the homepage from my end.

@BeAware and here I thought you weren't posting because traversing the highways of the oldest anarchy server in Minecraft history, 2b2t, took a lot of attention :pedro:

@BeAware I don't think our goal is just to make money. I *do* think that having a financially viable Fediverse is important; it's one of our goals. But that can mean a lot of different things: coops, non-profits, grants, or companies.
But the money is a means to an end: having positive, independent social networking software and services.

@evan I just hope there's no major financial influence from the major companies involved like Meta.
I don't want to lose control of my own site because I am not a programmer. I have a bit of control with Mastodon right now. However, there are some gripes everyone has had like lack of moderation features.
I worry a financial influence to change certain things will lessen my control and I'd have to find another software.
My worries always come from a place of passion and concern.
Thanks for your response. I appreciate you.

Good point...but a bit of both tbh. It's quite different here lately.

@TransitBiker so, it's very vague, but it's basically a foundation that's supposed to be the official "decision makers" on AP, the protocol that runs the Fediverse.
The worrying thing, is that their board of advisors are big companies like Meta and Automattic, who both have massive financial incentives to change things for their benefit.
