I'm a bit slow. Where are the commies going?

We should probably start compiling a megathread.
Brilliant idea

Voyager is also my favorite. So I'm sticking with Lemmy for the time being. I've made new accounts on both Piefed and another Lemmy instance.
It is great to know your options, and it sounds like you know what you want!
Some things like categories of (multi-)communities are worth switching for all on their own, for some people but ofc not for everyone:-).
-
The part that sucks about all this is that there aren't any tools to fully migrate my account over to a new instance. Comments and posts will be left behind, but at least they'll hopefully remain federated for as long as possible so I can look back at them in the future.
I just migrated a community from Lemmy to Piefed using the migration feature, it worked quite well - lemm.ee

Brings up the question if there should be a migrate community option on the back-end
I just migrated a community from Lemmy to Piefed using the migration feature, it worked quite well - Divisions by zero

Thank you for the information! I just made a new account on feddit.online and will try out Thunder. What other instances work well with Voyager, if you know?
None work with Voyager. Soon all should work with Interstellar. Thunder is a special case where it currently being tested.
In general app support is very new and hit or miss - the webpage is the preferred method of access (though that should change this year as the changes continue to roll out and push ahead:-).

I don't understand what migrating an account could do besides making new, duplicate posts & comments and deleting the old ones, which would mess up comment chains and spawn even more duplicate posts with no comments on them than we already have.

It would amazing if when importing, all the posts, would show up linking to them, just that and nothing more.
But I think this was discussed and its not going to happen. -

Oh fuck it. I think I'll just stop using Lemmy when this instance shuts down. This is the part of the fediverse that really sucks. All the comments, saved posts etc are gone because why? A couple of guys couldn't handle a few troll messages? Sorry, if we want an independent site, away from the hands of venture capitalists, you're gonna have to tough it out and deal with a few nasty messages.

I think posts and comments will stay saved on other federated servers. It'd be weird and would probably break things if the entire server's activity gets scrubbed.

Welcome back

so fetch
I keep thinking voice comms until I remember the kids are trying to be cool.

Yes. It’s shutting down at the end of the month.
Aaaargh, I can already feel my power waning... All these moments will be lost in time, and so on.
On a lighter and more serious note, though, thanks to all the admins and mods that made this ride possible. You are the best. -

No they aren't. Clearly they don't have to, as they are in fact shutting the instance.
They're providing a service, as volunteers, for free, and asking nothing in return. By definition they get to set the terms on which they do that, and it is astonishingly selfish for you to expect them to do so under conditions that are clearly untenable, and blame them for this outcome when they cannot continue.
No. If you want an independent site, away from the hands of venture capitalists, you should've stepped up and volunteered to admin when they needed help.
-
Not necessarily @lemm.ee trolls; trolls from other instances starting shit in @lemm.ee communities, and they just don't have enough admins to handle things
This is my first time hearing about this.
-
So then won’t this problem just move to another instance if .ee closes?
No, because most of the other instances are probably more prepared.

Nice, good luck with the migration! I'll be keeping an eye out where to subscribe
