one of my great-cousins was visiting yesterday evening, they live around the dc area and they are a socially active 30-something… and they had never heard of bluesky, and even more than that, they had never heard of threads.

@natalie i mean they know what twitter is, idk if they have a twitter account or use one, but the larger point is that even threads with its 275m users is still considered "alternative social media" more than it is "mainstream social media". nearly 300 million users is still around an order of magnitude below facebook, youtube, instagram, tiktok, and so on. more people post to linkedin than to threads.
