I sure do wish I could search the wider Fediverse without having a mastodon.social account...

@rolle @linchiao we need a "days since ignorant fucks thought #Fediverse is 'private'" page.

@BeAware Yeah, it's unfortunate. But I will not give in. I will continue building tools. Gotta be careful though.
I know where they come from, because minorities been harrassed for so long. Yet I can't understand why they are doing the exact same thing than their harassers.
I'm not one of those "kill or be killed". My mom told me to always be polite. This is why I quote a 4 time concentration camp holocaust survivor Eddie Jaku so often, he did not even want to punch nazis, he knew hate is a disease and will end both parties. @david

@rolle @david it's just mind blowing to me that they don't realize that the technology is built directly into Fediverse to protect themselves from being seen on public timelines...just don't post publicly!
Like...we have privacy options for a reason!
️
Do they not know how to post with an "unlisted" or "followers only" setting? Maybe there needs to be a tutorial.
I never thought something so easy would need a tutorial....yet....here we are?

replied to beaware@social.beaware.live last edited by@BeAware @rolle i mean, there must be some way of converting private posts to public because ryona.agency has an mrf that does that .
I can understand the concern with that if someone was to use such code in their fedi scraper.
my opinion is basically if it's not meant to be public but you make it public then it's wrong.
i think fedi scrapers if its public posts are fine. I get the concern over AI that some ppl might have tho, but it does seem kinda inevitable. there are AI ppl on fedi, so it's kinda unavoidable tbh -

@david @rolle absolutely! Welcome to learning about Pleroma MRF policies that don't give a fuck about your "privacy"
they even have a policy to ignore delete requests from other servers.
"Oh? You thought you deleted that embarrassing post? Heh, NOPE!"
Yet people are worried about public timelines that every fucking instance has.
Give me a break.

@david @BeAware It sits on the public websockets feeds for as many servers as it can find.
as:Public is why Mastodon by default disables all public access to public timelines, and even that took them a few steps. Like, when they first tried cutting it off, they didn't apply it to websockets, so the as:Public Collector was entirely unaffected, for instances which supported websockets.
Now that anonymous access is disabled by default, I maintain accounts across the top instances, and the ones that block the most other instances, in order to get reasonably-complete coverage.
