as:Public is why Mastodon by default disables all public access to public timelines, and even that took them a few steps. Like, when they first tried cutting it off, they didn't apply it to websockets, so the as:Public Collector was entirely unaffected, for instances which supported websockets.

Now that anonymous access is disabled by default, I maintain accounts across the top instances, and the ones that block the most other instances, in order to get reasonably-complete coverage.

Also, everyone always searches their name and assumes it's shit because it doesn't pull anything. Currently it only searches post body and CW. You can't search by account.
