@alterelefant @lolgop mastodon has been in development for far longer as well.
Maybe it'll get there in time. The infrastructure is also far more divided than Fediverse softwares. 10 users can have their data on a PDS, which is the only thing it hosts. Then those PDS can be used on the AppViews like Whitewind, Frontpage.fyi, and BlueSky.
