I feel that sometimes my worries and concerns regarding Fediverse are seen as just hate for the platform or something.

@BeAware What are your main concerns?

@MarcusAnthonyCyganiak right now it's that because of Mastodon's hold of the Fediverse, they can choose to ignore crucial updates like moderation tools which are currently the main reason why harassment is so bad.
Also that with this new foundation and who is a part of it, there will be some financial corporate influence going into it that could change things in a negative way.
Our biggest benefit is decentralization and with those issues, I worry we lose it.

@BeAware I see. Does Threads by Meta play into your concerns?

@MarcusAnthonyCyganiak well yes. Meta as a whole because of the social web foundation thing announced yesterday.
I just hope there's no major financial influence from them going forward with AP.

@BeAware @MarcusAnthonyCyganiak what do you mean by "moderation tools"?

@evan @MarcusAnthonyCyganiak well, on mastodon, a moderator needs to see a report by a user for offensive content or see the content with their own eyes.
However, since I am on a single user instance, those would be the same things.
Also that a lot of users don't report because their experience on corporate platforms tells them that it does no good, so they just block and move on.
If there could be some automated reporting of posts based on keywords like regex or similar, that would go a LONG way, in my opinion.
I had tried to suggest this a few times but had been shut down pretty directly in the past.
As long as it doesn't take moderation actions and *only* reports to the single instance, not forwarding it, I feel like it'd be a good thing.

@BeAware @MarcusAnthonyCyganiak that's a good idea! There are some hooks in Mastodon for things like that. I think automated tools for moderation are a good idea.

@evan @MarcusAnthonyCyganiak Thanks for this quick reply Evan.
I appreciate that you're the forefront for this. You're my bit of hope that this thing doesn't go south.
These types of things would go a long way to help marginalized groups feel safer here. People of color, especially, as I've seen them be the most outspoken in regards to harassment here.
I hope someday soon we will see these types of tools, whether it'll be from Mastodon officially or something like IFTAS.

@BeAware What was the announcement about?

@MarcusAnthonyCyganiak Its pretty vague but theres now an "official" foundation with Evan Prodromu at the head that is seemingly supposed to be able to make better decisions for Fediverse.
The worrying thing is that Meta is on their board of advisors, which definitely seems like they'll have a financial influence in how Fediverse works going forward.
A minor example of a thing they could make reality that worries me, is their current implementation of quote posts.
On Threads, when you link another post on Threads, it automatically turns into a quote post. That being said, they also added "limiting quote posts" which makes it so that you cannot quote people with that turned on, which also stops linking to the post entirely.
If that becomes a thing on the fediverse, where I cannot link to a post within my own website, I will be absolutely livid.
