it also bothers me deeply when they do that with lavalier mics but i try not to let it show because it's obviously a bit of some sort

@codl i saw a claim once that it's a gen z thing where "high production quality" (having the mic out of frame) is seen as less "authentic", so literally the lowest effort thing to do that sounds good is to just hold the mic close to your mouth, looks be damned
idk if that's actually it but either way it doesn't really bother me, i'm just happy that it sounds better (i'm a sucker for proximity effect)
