for context — https://mastodon.social/@dailyheathcliff/114863753291400382
(in which heathcliff plays a piano, and a cactus atop said piano seemingly sings a handful of notes, as heard in the video above. two mice watch, one of them speaks, ‘they don’t require much water and can sing like an angel.’)

@brhfl Honestly I think it is probably made-up or a mashup of things. Copyright would prevent a lot from being printed if it were real. Stylistically the key signature doesn't make sense with the tonality and the rhythm sounds like it has words but any melody in there is suspect.
IMHO.
Or it could be lifted straight out of an issue of Keyboard magazine.

@dtauvdiodr copyright issue is a fair point, yeah… we’ve tried to play this game a few times before but i think this might be the longest stretch of music pete’s dropped into a strip. it is, erm, being ‘sung’ by a cactus in the strip which makes your point about the rhythm interesting.
appreciate the input!

@dtauvdiodr an interesting wrinkle came to surface when i brought this up in the heathcliff discord i’m in… in other instances, pete has clearly hand-written the relevant notation whereas this seems directly copied and pasted from something professionally engraved.
curiouser and curiouser!

@brhfl Well, now I'm in full belief it is Wagner.

@dtauvdiodr @brhfl the copyright/royalty thing seems more compelling. it's a Creative Commons track from Kevin Macleod's website, incompetech: https://mastodon.social/@trwnh/114869893849043736

@brhfl for completely unrelated reasons, i was listening to incompetech tracks and stumbled upon this one and went "wait a minute--", came back to this thread, and was like "yep"

@trwnh that’s incredible. i want to give you credit on the heathcliff discord i’m on – would the ideal thing be a link to your resume or…?
