I meant to say "...buttons do?" rather than "...buttons mean?" I can see that they mean we mutually follow each other.I can even DEDUCE that if I click it the only reasonable thing would be for it to unfollow the person. But a good UI shouldn't force me to make logical deductions. This button should be labelled Unfollow if that's the action it will perform.
I mean, by this logic the "Follow back" button should be labelled "Non-mutual" or "It's only you, baby!"
No strong opinions here. Nope.
