I'm curious about the scholar.social instance. It appears their local timeline isn't open to the public? Am I getting this wrong?

@EpicBear local is just that, local.
Federated or Public timeline is what you might be looking for.

@EpicBear oh...yea, I misread it. I'm sorry.🫣
️ I failed to realize you aren't on that instance.
Some instances do that. It feels strange to me.

@BeAware No worries, I always appreciate positive interactions on Mastodon. This has been so much better than the Twitter days.
Though on a debatable question: would you prefer a single image of all posts visible to each user or the current "federated" view?

@EpicBear hmm...I don't quite understand what that would look like.
Is there a way you can explain?

@BeAware Basically you would get access to all posts like in Twitter and Bluesky (via searches or your various timelines) vs the somewhat fragmented access to posts in Mastodon. Sorry if I'm not explaining this well. I'm basically talking about discoverability.

@EpicBear oh yes, id LOVE that.
There was actually a seperate project called FediOnFire that was basically exactly that.
However, there's a certain group I call "the Fedi Mafia" that harassed and threatened the dev to shut it down because they think Fediverse is private for some reason.
