the follow flow on PeerTube is totally confusing and really needs work. While on an un-logged-in instance the "Subscribe to all channels" button only has the option to follow with "Subscribe with an account on this instance" but then further down if you click on an individual channel listed on the account page it gives you a remote follow option.

Additionally it says you can subscribe with "Any ActivityPub-capable instance" but this is just not true. If I enter my Lemmy account it it gives me a big "Could not fetch" error. If I try my BookWyrm, I get a Cannot fetch error. Same error if I enter a flipboard.com account.

This issue shouldn't need to be documented (and shouldn't even exist) in a standards-based network, but here we are.

@mikedev the @@ terminology has existed outside way outside of mastodon for a very long time. I would argue that its inherently part of the fediverse since it has been necessary to mention someone as far back as on GNU Social/Identica days.

@mikedev I just retried the same accounts without the leading @ and they had the same result. Also tried with a mastodon account with and without the leading @ and they both worked quite fine...

mikedev@fediversity.sitereplied to liaizon@social.wake.st last edited byI stand by my statement. Mentions are not webfinger addresses. Webfinger addresses are not mentions. I didn't see double '@' in a webfinger address until around 2020. And I've been here a long time. I'm not saying peertube works correctly, that I don't know. But if you're webfingering somebody on the fedi and use two '@'s a lot of projects will give you a 404.
