.ml is probably worst, but World, gets touchey if you engage in politics that takes slightly effort to get banned on those communities.(especially involving around disputing israel/gazi related issues, like whos backing and funding it.

You are free to host an instance with any rules you like, also lemmy is generally ok with Luigi posting
with reddit, you can twitch you would get shadowbanned, new users are likely to get banned because they look they are botting or spamming,because no account history, they just turned thier filters up very high. your account against 2 different set of filters(reddit filter sitewide, and subreddit of specific niches filters) they have all mostly increased it.

Also no piracy.” .ml says “avoid criticizing Russia, china, North Korea, communism, communist figures, or cursing at our special little gremlins who will spew vileness at you entirely unprompted. But also don’t be a dick or deny atrocities, unless doing so interferes with any of the previously stated rules.”
I can’t see how you’d have a grievance with both, unless you’re moving politically rightward. Which I have strong opinions about.

The frontpage was never good, but hooo boy.
Every time I catch a peek now it's the same Am I the Asshole (they're obviously not), Am I Overreacting (My husband called me 15 different slurs, AIO????), and the same stupid AskReddit questions (Americans of Reddit, how do you feel living in a ruined country?)I swear, back then there were bots reposting old posts and reply chains, now they must be AI generating the whole thing because all the frontpage shit is the exact same posts, following the same format, day after day.
At this point I wouldn't go back even if rolled back their shitty changes.
If Reddit ever disclosed how many "users" were bots, I'm quite confident it would be >80%. 95%+ of everything we see on the front page. Now consider who is running those bots, and why. What kind of opinions are they trying to shape?

It takes some doing, but you can whittle /all down to something personalized and enjoyable to browse.
You could block lemmynsfw entirely if you want.

The first 6-12 months here (during/right after the Reddit API drama) were great. After that....not so much.
I admit that I got banned from Reddit. I suspect that after saying a bunch of stuff that was unfriendly to lord Musk, to Netanyahu and to Hamas. Since then I seem to have gotten even the most innocent comments reported, leading to a permaban.

The bans are mostly meaningless these days tho. Its so easy to make a new account and bypass detections.

They said all that about a bunch of alternative media that was banned from all money processing. Oh, you can't use the banks. Why don't you just make your own? While I don't agree with most of the things those kind of people said, I also do not agree with completely banning their speech. All that does is push them into the shadows and that's how Donald Trump gets elected.
Running a lemmy instance is a lot easier than running a bank though. There may also already be an instance that is close enough for you and you could run a community there.

I'm the guy that left reddit 10 years ago during the Elen Pao thing and never returned, moving from free speech platform to free speech platform. Putting up with literal nazis whom I did not in any way agree with because they were censored and banned while I was there for ideological reasons.
