@fentiger what if activitypub is ultimately the wrong path for the web? (see my immediate follow-up about feeds and syndication)

@ignaloidas idk i'm not sure about that, it's stuff that when i search for it in youtube music, it just doesn't come up at all. maybe if i'm lucky someone has uploaded a video with the entire album, but that doesn't help with wanting to add a specific track to a playlist

far be it for me to openwash this all with the term “open social”; i would rather use the term “alt social” were it not for the mainstream offerings laying claim. can you really say “it’s not Facebook” when talking about a category that includes Threads?a more explicitly not-for-profit anti-corporate network of people — what would you call that? what quippy or catchy name would you use?

i remember one time seeing on the public timeline some people having a full-blown conversation but with zero mentions or replies. that's a modality of communication that i think is worth exploring more.

for any #fedidev trying to build a distributed database: are your activities ACID-compliant? do you expect or require other people’s incoming activities to represent ACID-compliant transactions?

@raphael no i'm more talking about explicit contexts and separation of concerns. it's less about discovering people (although that's part of it). the main thrust of this is that "globally" is the wrong way to look at it, and we should instead try to build more tangible localities. i don't *want* to talk to everyone on earth. in fact, i want to get away from certain people! the lines along which fedi are split are the wrong lines to be drawing.
