@helge @julian with that said: we'd have less complexity if everyone used fully expanded jsonld without any context, because that would make it so that there's exactly one correct canonical way to express anything...at the cost of readability. which is really why context exists: to allow for using more readable shorthand, without losing the mapping to the unambiguous form. with enough context you should be able to map any arbitrary json to an unambiguous generic entity-attribute-value graph.

@helge @julian more serious answer: if everyone used a proper json-ld processor, the output would be more consistent.

@esoteric_programmer @lrhodes @mat @mcc @alter_kaker you are *supposed* to "convert" the user.domain.tld to did:plc:blah, but you can still construct references against user.domain.tld. but you're not supposed to. but every user-facing component only shows you the user.domain.tld instead of the did:plc:blah, so if you're just copying from your address bar, you are going to get the "wrong" identifier most likely.it has the exact same properties as letting a dns name lapse and get reassigned.

@silverpill @tesaguri i.e. if org.example/~alice/foo claims to be attributed to org.example/~bob, we don't know a priori if this is true or false. ~bob needs to be able to make a claim for ~alice/foo as well.ironically, mastodon came up with a relatively more sound solution for fediverse:creator than it uses for attributedTo. their attributionDomains property at least establishes trust for a domain explicitly. (it would be nice to have more granularity though! maybe attributionPrefixes?)
