@julian i recognize we are not there yet, but i do think we need to broadly move toward an architecture where a server going down isn’t as catastrophic as it currently is.

@hugh @skyfaller ah yeah, in a socialhub thread i called it an “impedance mismatch” and i mostly stand by that — fedi wants to do more than just sending notifications to inboxes, and reading notifications from those inboxes.the other side of this is that the notifications themselves are often consumed as JSON-RPC instead of being kept around as bona fide resources. when’s the last time you stored a raw HTTP POST request/response message on disk? all fedi cares about is side effects…

one way is to fix or reduce the horrors but the other way is to put the lid back on and never take it off again

the one thing that i do wish i had though is better tooling to visualize those connections, or to use those connections to build better visualizations. i was weighing going with some drag-and-drop-style diagramming software like diagrams.net, but realized that i wanted to include a lot of metadata that would be somewhat painful to have in a diagram and somewhat natural to have in a plain text file.

@oblomov i was mostly thinking of same origin being imported uncritically without any consideration for what that implies for the trust model(the implied logical conclusion is everyone gets a fqdn and they can’t publish anything on any other site because it will never be trusted. your domain is a prison cell and your server is a prison)also the whole “you are not allowed to upload arbitrary text files because what if they are jsonld” is a really bad meme

btw i don't need support or an rma anymore... no thanks to gigabyte whatsoever. i used a different usb stick and reformatted it and the q-flash plus started working. just managed to get everything reassembled and booted/verified in working order as of some minutes ago.
