Having a Holos account is equivalent to running a single user instance and doing continuous database backups. The difference is in the software architecture, not in the protocol: the database is located on user's phone instead of the machine where the server is running.The how-it-works page also talks about cryptographic keys "never leaving your device". This is just misleading marketing. The location of the keys is irrelevant, because keys in ActivityPub are identified by URIs, and what an URI resolves to is controlled by a person who controls the server frontend and the domain name.

Whether you are a fan or not of ATProto, whether you believe that it is better or worse than ActivityPub, one thing is undeniable: Bluesky today is a better experience than the taped together, Mastodon-centric Fediverse. Bluesky has *MUCH BETTER* mobile software, a better, more consistent experience, and - this might shock some - great ideas on how to really use decentralized software. @ricmac@mastodon.social #Madblog has native support for #Webmentions, and unlike #ActivityPub they're enabled by default. I've tried to make it as simple as possible and avoid manual callbacks or special tags for mentioned links. You put a link in an article, and when you save it Webmentions are sent to supported targets. Someone mentions your article from a place that supports Webmentions, and the mention is stored on your blog.

Why "Delete" is complicated in the #FediverseUnlike X or Facebook where one company owns the only copy of your post, Mastodon and other Social Web apps use the #ActivityPub protocol.When you post, your server (e.g. toot.wales) sends a copy to some number of servers (e.g. mastodon.social) - anywhere from one to 40,000 depending on a bunch of stuff.When you delete, your server sends a Delete request to all those same servers.

I was hoping that link would display as a preview card for my site (with the featured image of the blog post, etc), but instead I'm seeing it as if I retweeted the fediverse version of my post (from my @doc handle). Does this happen to other folks who use the #ActivityPub for #WordPress plugin? Is there a way to force it show the preview card instead of "re-tooting" a fediverse post associated with my blog?
