@wendythedruid yes but it also allows for adversarial migrations (when the PDS is not responsive or shuts you out, you can still keep your identity)But it's mainly that integrating with other apps does not require you to actually ask those apps or contact those apps. You can just query the PDSes or the relays and get the data. That's neat and contribute to lowering the amount of power an app can have inside the atmosphere

Oh I have given a closer look at the Wfrn code and in fact its a full blown AP + Bluesky implementation that connect to Bluesky using a sidecar container connected the the Jetstream firehose, this is very interesting

@bob Yes, as I explained in the blog post I am also more resigned to that fact, less frustrated. And it is a good kind of resiliency in a way.OTOH the application space that triggered my interest for ActivityPub in 2017 is still not feasible with current technology base, and - unless there's a change in direction - will not materialize either. The current fediverse has restricted its usefulness wrt the original promise in the specs.That said, I do enjoy microblogging et al, and here there was big success.

@uriel yeah I *thought* I had all the moderation tools one could need, but apparently not.I'm not going to run an open-registration instance myself because I have more interesting things to do with my life, but if/when someone else does, I'd really want their feedback to improve the moderation tools.One idea is that since I already have a script interpreter now (https://smithereen.software/docs/api/methods/execute), I could reuse that to allow admins to write scripts that run on e.g. new posts as a spam filter of sorts.

@silverpill Completely custom, started off quite basic to get just a post appearing - built it up from there iteratively - I think there's probably a few things I'm not doing 100% right still, but it was a good way to understand the protocol.

Honestly, I hadn’t thought about that. I was planning to wait and see how Mastodon handles it and adapt to their approach. The DM as accept idea is really interesting. It could work.
