It's actually from earlier than that (Locke, Smith later, yes), but it only became unmanageable after we found cheap energy in the industrial revolution, which made the human element mostly trivial.
Smith wrote in the 18th century. Locke, as I recall, never did much with economics

Locke "invented" liberalism, which Smith, as a moral philosopher, concretized in practice.

Holy cringe
Anytime someone says "can't use
anymore, white nationalists use it" instead of resisting that by reasserting the more common usage, they're letting a minority like white nationalists take over & decide the meaning of cultural signs for the majority: yes, that is holy cringe.
Language & cultural conventions take cooperation: stop cooperating with & caving to white nationalists.

As usual i read too much into stupid shit. Yes, this is toxic masculinity just as much as punching someone in the face. But, like everything, context matters and I believe directing harm towards “bad” people is “good” (aka punching a nazi is good, even preferable). My granpa (a declared fash) would shield behind the “no violence” stand to support the most heinous shit and my point always has been that somebody need to shoot a nazi eventually. That guy would be “bad” for killing a person but we need those guys. At some point kindness doesn’t cut it anymore.
Shit, that's a tough trolley problem...particularly if your grandpa is an ok guy otherwise and mostly harmless...maybe just lock him out of social media?

6 reasons why ancient statues have such small penises
Many are surprised to note that the ancient statues of gods and heroes have catastrophically small penises. It seemed that the cult of a healthy body and ...

Communism failed horribly, don't put words in my mouth. Conspicuous consumption, planned obsolescence, manufactured demand, etc is taking longer, but it will fail too eventually.
Mutual, I didn't think or mean to imply that you thought communism would solve penis disphoria, you could replace the word "communism" with any other system you like in that sentence, I was just trying to illustrate that the roots of being self-conscious of ones penis size likely have more primal causes than capitalism or any other economic system.

There's a whole theological reflection by the German pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who participated in a tentative to kill Hitler. In a nutshell, he said that killing was always bad, but in some fringe cases, someone has to get their hands dirty.
He was killed by the Nazis after the failure of the killing attempt.

I just look at things like aesthetic plastic surgery and wonder if people used to feel inferior about themselves for things that they could not change (makeup was easy, so yeah, that has always existed...). Because today you need to keep improving yourself...because you can.

Sure, I would agree with that, but just because it's root cause is the patriarchy does not mean that something that hurts men is actually misogyny.
Yeah, I think misogyny was the wrong term. They're not the same.

The ancient Romans thought a large penis was less desirable. You could mock someone for being big.
Well yes but no. Aesthetically, it was considered vulgar. So was drinking wine "raw", but people still got plenty drunk all the time. And no matter the fashion of the statues of the time, sex still worked the same.
sex still worked the same.
Exactly. The G spot is like 2" inside, and people still have fingers and tongues.

Locke "invented" liberalism, which Smith, as a moral philosopher, concretized in practice.
Yes but Loke solely focused on political rights whereas Adams was concerned with the economy. Locke wasn't involved in capitalism.

I never said
can't be used for its original purpose. It all depends on context.

Shaming people for "dick size" is support for the patriarchy
and therefore supporting misogyny.Fuck this toxic masculinity. This is literally feeding into the alt-right pipeline.
It's shaming them for their toxic masculinity.
It's also a comic, so maybe you could loosen up that stick.

Liberals must have huge elephant penises that nobody wants to fuck with.
Centrism is where it's at.
Centerists are a large part of why we're in this mess.

Fair enough.

Body shaming sucks no matter what.
And IMO making fun of penis size is toxic masculinity.
That said it is speaking in a language that they understand and use, we have to stoop to speak to their base. I hate all of it :')This really isn't body shaming, though. It's making fun of the toxic masculinity that white nationalists subscribe to.
It's like Peter making a racist joke in Family Guy. The point isn't that the racist joke is funny, it's that being a racist should be ridiculed.

Thanks for clarifying that
You're welcome. Glad I could help.

Apparently we aren't allowed to fight fire with fire. eyeroll
You know what? Fuck that. When I deal with meatheads at work (I'm in construction) I use their own language against them to shame them.
One example: If they say something is woke just because they don't like it, I'm calling them a r3tard. Not because I enjoy saying the word, but because I KNOW it's language that will actually get through to them. " Are you r3tarded?" Is A LOT more effective than "That's not nice" with people who are like that. -
Centerists are a large part of why we're in this mess.
Dangerous mindset. Too close to "You're either with us or you're against us" There is nothing wrong with being right down the middle and having some right wing ideologies and some left wing ideologies. Lots of people are socially liberal and fiscally conservative. It's not their fault the political system and zealots who've politicized everything have drawn such a deep line in the sand.

who's out there comparing their dicks to other dudes to know if they're below or above average
Back when the internet sucked, I was young and insecure. So I just asked the girls I slept with how I stacked up against the other guys.
It's amazing how being young and good looking can make up for being creepy and weird.
