I'm going to miss lemm.ee.

I'm in the same boat. I do not like defederation. So where do we go? Any other instance with the same openness? I don't know details about instances, but I know I'd like to avoid .world though.
I honestly haven't put too much thought into it yet, but I joined sh.itjust.works and db0 because I've seen some of their users around and thought they were cool.

Yup, most likely. And it's very ironic that they point to that when we got defedded over their admin trying to watch out for the interests of a moderator who would end up switching to a different instance when Ada took the same stances on pronouns that Hexbear had taken years earlier.
Assuming you're talking about moss (the admin, not the plant), she mentioned that they didn't try to leave because of anything due to neopronouns (and she mentioned this is the post).
It was because of Ada moderating communities as well, and being (in her opinion), overbearing.FWIW, the migration was botched, and everyone's at !onehundredninetysix@lemmy.blahaj.zone now.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't hexbear also block LBZ? If so, why's that?

Wherever you guys migrate, please stop concentrating the userbase around lemmy.world, that's exactly what we're trying to avoid with Lemmy to begin with. The best thing you can do is go to https://join-lemmy.org/ and choose a server that's not in the top 10 or so. This will also help avoid things like the admins/mods burning out
Yeah I was gonna try out piefed and mbin but if those don’t work out for me any lemmy instance suggestions? J was thinking lemmy.zip or any instance who only defederates with spam/illegal stuff
-
I'll be honest i don't get what people differentiate so much about instances. most of the time i don't even notice what instance people I'm talking to are from, what instance the community in browsing is from, what instance the meme I'm viewing is from... is it about the software you're using that you're so aware of these things?
Community cultures, mostly, as trimmed and pruned by admins. Most instances I don't notice massive differences in, with a few exceptions.

Wasn't all of that done when some of the cis members of the community were getting extremely angry at Ada for the new pronouns moderation? Like, sure, they stated it wasn't because of the new pronoun position, but it seems pretty clear that Ada embraced a position that was closer to the hardline pro-trans position of Hexbear and it pushed a ton of people away.
And yeah, we have them defedded because of chasers in their 196 comm making our trans users feel unsafe.

Here’s an entitled ass to add to your collection lol https://sh.itjust.works/comment/19001249
They sound like they want to speak to the manager.
That's an unfortunate situation with slrpnk.net. Not having anyone able to physically access a server for weeks was really tempting fate, though.

Tell them to offer an old-lemmy frontend then

Upon closer look, you guys didn't block them: hexbear.net/instances
Anyway, I don't think people were really pushed away from LBZ, it was just the 196 thing and a few people gettin banned for pissing themselves about neopronouns.
In any case, the 196 community wanted to stay, the alternate comm is more popular (by MAU) than the original.

There are some sites that show what instances are de-federated from that. People can use that as a guide as well, if there are instances they don't really want feeds from due to their underlying circumstances. They should also check the admins and modlog so they don't run into surprises later down the line.

You just made me realise a non-zero amount of people have this view and post/behave however they want - leading to instance closures and defederations
Probably people getting down voted like crazy for asking simple questions isn't really good for retention or growth. Late stage reddit behavior. Guess lemmy is going to speed run all of the downside of reddit.

It's wise to not give a fuck about downvotes. They can't hurt you. You can't make it right for everyone. And that's okay. Sometimes you say stuff that agrees with a couple of people. Sometimes you don't. Questions included, as some might see those as a statement. You're free to do the same. Isn't democracy beautiful?

Thanks this is helpful, but first server recommended was lemmy.ml 🤮

hey buddy, sorry we're too cool for you. believing in things is cringe (it's extremism to call out other people for supporting genocide)
sorry but your form of extremism wouldve resulted in the same thing.

lol it's so funny to accuse Hexbear of being a circle jerk when we are the ones that made all the reddit-like instances mald and defederate us the second they were exposed to perspectives that aren't even exclusive to communists, but are widely held across the global South.
if that is true, why are so many instances blocking yours and 2 others? your no better than your conservative counterparts. you cant escape liking authorianism and liking communism, it doesnt work like that.

mmmmm this comment is prolly one of my faves. tagline worthy

The reason many instances block ours is that the majority of Lemmy users are reactionary liberals from imperialist countries that really, really hate seeing anything that counters their narrative about being enlightened progressives. A huge number of you probably have made a myth in your mind that compared to your older, more culturally conservative relatives, you're basically as compassionate and left wing as it gets. Then you interact with communists who point out how imperialism works and how you benefit from it, as well as the action that is necessary to end that exploitaiton, and it shakes you to your core that you aren't as left as it gets. No, I can't be out of touch, it's the hundreds of millions of leftists in the imperial periphery who are wrong
To make it exceedingly clear: here you are, accusing us of not being able to escape liking authoritarianism, but your own liberal positions are currently either passively accepting or actively encouraging a genocide of 2 million people in Gaza. You might say you are opposed to that, but in practice you keep condemning the radical groups that actually are doing what's necessary to end the genocide (i.e. the Resistance in the actual countries aftected and orgs like Palestine Action and the PSL in the West) because they're "authoritarian leftists" or even worse, antisemites.

sorry but your form of extremism wouldve resulted in the same thing.
Actually my form of extremism is literally "indigenous people get sovereignty over their own land" so no, try again.

I did my part. Time for my retro gaming lemmy era
already bought all the stuff I need to put freehdboot on my ps2.

This post did not contain any content.
It was great while it lasted, and I thank those that ran it. A breath of fresh air after initially being on an instance that decided to nanny its users by defederating from instances for no good reasons.
I have a backup account on sdf.org, so I'm now using that as my main instance. Thanks to those who run it.

Apparently db0 and lemmy.zip are two such instances that broadly federate
