#Mastodon #Misskey #Fediverse #ActivityPub #PixelFed #PeerTube #Loops #InfoSec #Security #InfoSecurity

I hate to glaze anything too much... but Fosstodon is pretty cool, I'd say. If you moved instances during the troubles you should really consider making your way back home! Miss u #Mastodon #Fosstodon #Fediverse #ActivityPub

Unfortunately, the administrator at social.tchncs.de is acting like a coward.Pointing out a confirmed scammer is not racism, sexism, or any kind of discrimination. What is happening in Gaza is horrific. I have never doubted this. What Israel has done to these innocent people is a crime against humanity. But a scam that hides itself as support is also wrong. That, too, is an injustice.I need a platform that does not give weight to false reports. Especially when there is clear evidence — photos and videos — that a scam exists, it should be acknowledged and addressed. If Reddit, Facebook, and Twitter can recognize such scams with proof, surely the Fediverse can do the same.#Fediverse #ActivityPub #Mastodon #Misskey #Scam #Fraud #Reddit #Twitter #Facebook

#FediTips Don't forget to check https://about.fedigroups.social/directory periodically for new groups to follow. Since gup.pe went down, the groups ecosystem has had to be rebuilt, so new ones are being added all the time.#mastodon #activitypub #fediverse #feditip

#Mastodon #Bluesky #rss #activitypub #fediverse #FOSS #Android #Opensource #Freesoftware @board@ovo.st @board@2-5.cc @worldboard@ovo.st @worldboard@2-5.cc https://github.com/0xZhangKe/Fread

@julian yes. BadgeFed has an API. But the concept is really simple, it is a Note (or Document) that has an attachment. The attachment is a property of the ActivityPub object usually used for videos or images. In this case the attachment includes a full OpenBadge object. The only restriction is that the Note attributed (activitypub actor) MUST be the url in the OpenBadge issuer (issuer = actor). Also the recipient url from the OpenBadge SHOULD be mentioned in the Note. With this simple mechanism you can pretty much create a compatible badge that can be decentralized with BadgeFed.

@wendythedruid yes but it also allows for adversarial migrations (when the PDS is not responsive or shuts you out, you can still keep your identity)But it's mainly that integrating with other apps does not require you to actually ask those apps or contact those apps. You can just query the PDSes or the relays and get the data. That's neat and contribute to lowering the amount of power an app can have inside the atmosphere

The Fediverse, you might have heard of it. From Mastodon to Peertube and more—it’s is a collection of different services that are all working together to form an interconnected universe of applications. It sounds unbelievable, but it’s here today. You can follow me over here on Mastodon. It wrests control of the web out of the hands of corporate oligarchs and digital tycoons and returns that power to where it belongs: us. I’ve spent the entirety of 2024 working on the Fediverse and I’ve learned a lot. See, I started mirroring these videos over on my Peertube instance: https://subscribeto.me/ and it’s sucked me. I’ve gone down this rabbit hole of discovery. I’ve passed through the looking glass. I’ve seen the promised land. And now, I want to share this with you. So in this video, I want to take a moment to explore 5 of the most important lessons I’ve learned and why I’m now betting the future of my company on this amazing technology that we call “The Fediverse.” 00:00 What if we lived in a cooperative online world? 01:33 What is an "instance?" 02:11 #5 - Netiquette was not a fluke 04:49 #4 - Kindness is King 06:44 #3 - It's not a Social Network 08:06 #2 - The Fediverse is boring (complement) 11:04 #1 - Viral Memes as Bioweapons 12:59 Social Media is the enemy of humanity 13:36 What the Fediverse truly is

@hongminhee Do they want LD signatures in Fedify in order to process forwarded Create activities? I simply fetch object by its id when signer and actor do not match.

#Moderators have said they need better tools to help them deal with #toxicity on #MastodonI'd be willing to start an #OpenSource project to build such tools. I'm a data scientist and could probably build a toxicity detector, but the project would also need1. Somebody familiar with #ActivityPub2. Somebody who could do UI3. A domain expert - someone with moderation experience @proprietor do you know anyone who could help4. Ethical oversight - could @DAIR help with this?

It’s still embarrassing to me how many here treat the CW hack as fact and scold users for not using it. Let me remind you that #mastodon abused the #activitypub standard to establish their own interpretation of the subject field to serve as #ContentWarning.

Please join me on a hypothetical journey...Let's imagine that I'm deploying a new Fediverse server. Let's also imagine that you _really_ wanted to join it and had a strong opinion on which server I should run it on so you voted in this poll...Comments and boosts encouraged Thanks!#activitypub #fediversa #mastodon #pleroma

We've really gotta merge #wordpress #mastodon and #lemmy. Every article functioning naturally as an #ActivityPub item, boostable with ranked replies. Sortable by multiple hashtags.

@rapha3l I'm not really sure, to be honest, but I got a feeling that it's sort of both. What I know for a fact, is that it's the same as if you entered the remote post's URL into your Mastodon instance's search bar. But I'm not 100% sure what doing this does to federation.AFAIK, 'federation' isn't a binary matter. I.e. it doesn't appear to be a question of two instances exchanging everything or nothing. As far as I can tell, federation (at least in the context of Mastodon) is based on who follows whom and what. That's why, for example, even though I follow several people on mastodon.social, I still need to fetch many replies from there. So, I think that's what's happening here: The two instances will be federated in that they are aware of one another, but they won’t be exchanging every message going forward. That is my understanding anyway. I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong.#mastoadmin #fediverse #fediadmin #activitypub #mastodon
