I believe the OK one was just 4chan going

"lol, the left is so gullible if we say the OK sign is a sign of white nationalists, they'll publish it". Of course the reality is, when they sent it out, the actual white nationalists saw it and started using it.

which is kind of the thing that they do. Just like pepe.. to my knowledge the original author doesn't seem to be a bad guy. Meme itself was used in non horrible ways for years. But today you see someone join something with a pepe avitar or similar... you know there's a 90% chance that whatever community you are in is about to get a test of how they react to the racial slurs that are about to come up.

Or you know you can go to the most famous and talked about ones. IE that symbol of good fortune that existed in countless peaceful cultures for thousands of years.

Yup, as long as there's a group of people with a shared understanding, any symbol can be compromised. All it takes is the right context for understanding.

I don't, no, not really. Make up is heavily advertised, and makeup companies have a vested interest in stoking those insecurities to increase their sales. On the dick-size side of things, you have a few surgeons I guess? Some scammy mobile game ads? But the vast, vast majority of people who aren't fuck-it rich just live with it, the only viable market for that shit is other capitalists, which makes me inclined to think that dick-size insecurities are much more organic.

Hypothesis: if we abolish capitalism and make the transition to socialism and communism, people will still be self conscious about their dick-size, because this particular self-consciousness probably pre-dates society itself

Communism failed horribly, don't put words in my mouth. Conspicuous consumption, planned obsolescence, manufactured demand, etc is taking longer, but it will fail too eventually.

Yes, but you didnt have status anxiety (i.e. if you can become anything you want if you work hard enough, why aren't you ""alpha"" yet?) and the prosperity gospel: "you deserve to be poor because you don't hustle enough at the altar of crapitalism".

But in Calvinism you couldn't do anything about it, in the prosperity gospel, it is your fault, because you don't belive enough, so you should try harder.

It's actually from earlier than that (Locke, Smith later, yes), but it only became unmanageable after we found cheap energy in the industrial revolution, which made the human element mostly trivial.

Anytime someone says "can't use 👌🏼 anymore, white nationalists use it" instead of resisting that by reasserting the more common usage, they're letting a minority like white nationalists take over & decide the meaning of cultural signs for the majority: yes, that is holy cringe.

As usual i read too much into stupid shit. Yes, this is toxic masculinity just as much as punching someone in the face. But, like everything, context matters and I believe directing harm towards “bad” people is “good” (aka punching a nazi is good, even preferable). My granpa (a declared fash) would shield behind the “no violence” stand to support the most heinous shit and my point always has been that somebody need to shoot a nazi eventually. That guy would be “bad” for killing a person but we need those guys. At some point kindness doesn’t cut it anymore.

Mutual, I didn't think or mean to imply that you thought communism would solve penis disphoria, you could replace the word "communism" with any other system you like in that sentence, I was just trying to illustrate that the roots of being self-conscious of ones penis size likely have more primal causes than capitalism or any other economic system.

There's a whole theological reflection by the German pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who participated in a tentative to kill Hitler. In a nutshell, he said that killing was always bad, but in some fringe cases, someone has to get their hands dirty.

He was killed by the Nazis after the failure of the killing attempt.

I just look at things like aesthetic plastic surgery and wonder if people used to feel inferior about themselves for things that they could not change (makeup was easy, so yeah, that has always existed...). Because today you need to keep improving yourself...because you can.

Sure, I would agree with that, but just because it's root cause is the patriarchy does not mean that something that hurts men is actually misogyny.

The ancient Romans thought a large penis was less desirable. You could mock someone for being big.

Well yes but no. Aesthetically, it was considered vulgar. So was drinking wine "raw", but people still got plenty drunk all the time. And no matter the fashion of the statues of the time, sex still worked the same.

Liberals must have huge elephant penises that nobody wants to fuck with.

                                          Centrism is where it's at.
